Sponsorship Categories and Application Criteria

Community Partnering Program Mission

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California seeks to encourage the discussion of water conservation, water quality, and water reliability issues important to the region through policy forums and educational collaborations.

The Community Partnering Program may sponsor water-related, educational outreach programs (e.g., community forums, workshops and water festivals, curriculum development for grades K-12, exhibits, promotional material, signage for native plant garden projects) or similar activities.

Listed below is the GENERAL CRITERIA for both categories (up to & over $2,000).

NEW -  PLEASE NOTE:

A Supplemental Criteria has been developed for programs requesting more than $2,000.  The criteria will be used in the scoring process by external and internal review panels.  Each program/activity will be scored for its compliance to CPP’s criteria, merit and overall benefit.

Due to record dry conditions, CPP’s primary focus is currently on water conservation programs and activities.

General Criteria (up to and over $2,000):

Applications will be evaluated on their ability to address the following key points:

  • The program/project should offer a fresh, unique perspective on a water resources issue.
  • The program/project offers an immediate or ongoing impact on topical water resources/outreach issues.  Currently, MWD focuses primarily on water conservation.
  • The applicant has an existing relationship with Metropolitan on other water resources education/outreach issues.
  • The applicant has an existing relationship with other water resources entities—member agencies, regional, state or national institutions.
  • The program/project should offer community involvement and/or volunteer opportunities.
  • The audience size and the regional benefits of the program/activity.
  • Does the program/project provide an opportunity for media coverage?
  • Has the applicant completed the application form and all required forms in full?
  • We recommend that the applicant contacts his or her local water supplier and secures a letter of support (for requests of more than $2,000).
  • For questions, please call a Community Partnering program representative at either (213) 217-6633, (213) 217-7262 or (213) 217-6619.

No substitutions: Awarded funds may ONLY be used for the program described in the application. If the program is cancelled or substantially modified funds MUST be returned to MWD and a new application submitted as necessary. The manager of the Community Partnering Program, Christel Webb, must be contacted in these circumstances.

Programs will not be funded retroactively. If the program completion date precedes the application and board approval deadlines, funding request will be declined.

Education Programs (Community Partnering Program)
Educational programs: K-12, college or adult education. Programs should provide opportunities for educational outreach on regional or local water resources issues. Examples include after-school water education; interpretive and activity-oriented education programs; water-related science fair.
